Area / pieces / boxes

Tile quantity

Keep theoretical coverage, cutting waste, and box rounding separate. Complex patterns still need a real layout.

Patterned layouts need a separate drawing
Net surface area10.08 m²
Theoretical minimum28 pieces

Result record

Treat area as the lower bound, not the layout.

The calculator converts a rectangular surface into pieces and boxes. A durable order record also keeps the tile module, joint intent, pattern, batch, edge conditions, allowance, and number of future spares.

  1. 01Confirm actual tile dimensions and pieces per box.
  2. 02Draw the controlling layout before choosing an allowance.
  3. 03Keep box rounding separate from cutting waste and future spares.

Formula and rounding order

Tile area = tile length x tile width after conversion to metres. Theoretical pieces = net area divided by tile area, rounded up. Add the waste allowance, round up again, then round to full boxes.

Waste is not a universal constant

A regular straight-laid room is easier to predict than diagonal, herringbone, patterned, or highly articulated work. Large tiles can also produce unusable strips when room dimensions do not align with the module.

What else belongs on the order

Confirm pieces per box, shade, calibre, batch, and return conditions. Keep a small number of sound matching tiles for future repair.

Scope: This tool does not simulate a layout. Irregular pieces, continuous veining, slabs, and high-value materials require a supplier-reviewed drawing.
