Which dimensions belong here?
For furniture planning and finished-room records, measure between the visible finished surfaces. For an unfinished room, record the present wall condition and note that plaster, tile, or lining will reduce the final clear size.
What about an irregular room?
Divide an L-shaped or recessed plan into non-overlapping rectangles and add them. Isolate angled portions as triangles or trapezoids. Keep the sketch and source segments with any material order.
